Weekly Message From Our Pastor

My friend is a Roman Catholic priest. Every week at mass, he tells me, he makes sure to bow to the table. It is sacred because it holds the communion bread, the body of Christ.

“But the next thing I do,” he confided, “is to bow to the people sitting in the church. Because they too are the body of Christ. And there is nothing more sacred than that.”

I see the beauty of this body so clearly in our community. I am moved to tears by all of the ways we break ourselves open for the sake of the world, blessing and nourishing everyone with the love that flows through us. Next time you run into folks at church, maybe you too can sneak in a bow toward the people gathered around you. Because in our blessedness and even in our brokenness, there is nothing more sacred than that.

Peace be with you, Meredith Dodd
